The Carolina Hurricanes are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The team was established in 1972 as the New England Whalers and was a member of the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Whalers joined the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1979 as part of the WHA-NHL merger.

The team played in Hartford, Connecticut as the Hartford Whalers until 1997, when they were relocated to North Carolina and became the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes play their home games at PNC Arena in Raleigh.

The Hurricanes have had success in the NHL, winning the Stanley Cup in 2006. Led by captain Rod Brind’Amour and goalie Cam Ward, the Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers in a thrilling seven-game series to capture their first and only Stanley Cup championship.

Throughout their history, the Hurricanes have had several notable players, including Eric Staal, Ron Francis, and Justin Williams. The team has also had success in recent years, making the playoffs multiple times and reaching the Eastern Conference Final in 2019.

The Hurricanes have established a strong fan base in North Carolina and continue to be a competitive team in the NHL.
